Post Pro­duc­tion Techniques

I’ve been plan­ning for this shoot for sev­eral months, and it was truly a mem­o­rable expe­ri­ence! Our old­est daugh­ter Holly reminds me of the singer/artist Pink, and I wanted to cre­ate an image of her to high­light that resemblance.

Trans­for­ma­tion To Pop Star PINK

We hired Phoenix makeup artist Alli­son Pynn to do the makeup and styling… wow, did she do an amaz­ing job! Using a screen­shot from the ‘U & Ur Hand’ video, Alli­son spent an hour turn­ing Holly into Pink. We then shot on green­screen, so that we could choose from a vari­ety of fun & funky back­grounds to layer into the final image.

Light­ing con­sisted of one light almost directly from the front to pro­duce a flat­tened, glam­our effect.

I also set up two black boards posi­tioned only inches from both sides of her face, to absorb light and cre­ate a more defined cheek­bone. The black­boards also helped to slim down Holly’s face, as her face is rounder than Pink’s.

I spent an hour cre­at­ing the final image in Pho­to­shop. Some of the major work I did in the trans­for­ma­tion was a sig­nif­i­cant amount of dif­fuse glow, using the liquify tool to fur­ther slim Holly’s face and elon­gate her neck, and enlarg­ing and open­ing her eyes with the liquify tool as well. I also used the color replace­ment tool to turn her hair red, and enhance the blue color of her eye.

After lay­er­ing in an image that Tony took in Las Vegas of the Planet Hol­ly­wood sign, I applied lens blur to the back­ground to cre­ate the illu­sion of depth. All of this Pho­to­shop work was cap­tured with a pro­gram called Screen Flow, so check out the video below and let us know what you think!
